SYNOPSIS
When a series of strangely intimate invitations call forth the the arrival of ten complete strangers on Soldier Island, they cannot cease wondering whether a mistake had been made. Cut off from the mainland, with a mysteriously absent host, panic struggles to surface when the guests start dying under peculiar circumstances, in complete synchronization with an unsettling nursery rhyme of the disturbing deaths of Ten Little Soldiers.
Can they escape the “fates“ of Ten Little Soldiers? And who is the killer—someone hidden away on the deserted island, or amongst themselves?
REVIEW
My first Agatha Christie book certainly did not disappoint. Though I did raise an eyebrow to certain parts—such as a woman being slapped just because men thought she was hysterical, or sentences such as “just like a woman“ flying around the minds of men—overall I enjoyed it VERY VERY VERY much.
As THE queen of mystery & crime, Agatha certainly has a way of fully grasping the readers’ attention while keeping the storyline clean & simple. I was quite skeptical at first to how she’d manage, with quite a handful of characters to “kill off“ (per the book title, no spoilers!). However, she struck a perfect balance between the plot & characters.
Not once did she over-complicate the plot to result in confusion, nor was it too easy to be figured out upon a glance. And without a single unintentional sentence or scene, she also managed to perfect the background, image & personality of each character (there were at least TEN people milling about)
I will never doubt how much of an icon Agatha Christie is, nor will I be able to stay away from her books. Please drop me your favorite Agatha Christie book so I know where to begin next ♡
